Wild Wings

I was helping my daughter kill time today because we are in "baby watch" mode. She is so miserable, bless her little heart. Come on into the world Charlotte Ruth Bradford. We are all waiting to meet you!

So trying to be a good mother, I suggest a ride to the local Goodwill. It always cheers me up, you know?

I was so excited to find a new wing back chair. For $29, I think I got a steal! The fabric is also in fab shape.

It matches all of the colors in my bedroom except the toile curtains, which I have had them up for over a year now. And if you know me, that is a record! It is also comfortable.

Just what a grandmother in waiting needed. A little interior decorating pick-me up! Now, I need some new curtains.....sorry Charlotte didn't make an appearance this afternoon Dana, but you did get some pretty keen candles today and a few other nifty items. I just know I'm going to get a middle of the night call :)

A Charlie Brown Christmas

So much going on lately that I haven't had time to post anything or work on my projects. I hope to finish the lamp tomorrow and show the "after." I did yard sail some this morning before I went to spend the day with my mom shopping for Father's Day Gifts and birthday gifts. I haven't done the mall in like 10 years, but mom is in a wheelchair so we have to go where she can get in and out. You should have seen the look on the 24-year-old sales clerk's face at Victoria Secret when she rounded the corner and seen my mom in her wheelchair. Priceless! No push-up bras or sexy undies for mom, but she did want to find that perfume her granddaughter wore that she liked so much!

But back to the treasure hunting. I found some VERY cheap art at a multifamily yard sale this weekend thanks to sweet Diane and her Facebook tip. Thanks Diane! All of it is on the nautical side, which is the direction I am going for without being cheesy nautical. Love this print and it reminds me of the lighthouse at Cape Hatteras:

This print drew me like a moth to a flame because of the type of boat depicted.  I used to see these boats on the Chesapeake and even the Potomac when I was a little girl fishing with my family and I just love nautical maps. It actually looks awkward hanging in my dining room even though it is a large print because there is just too much wall for one picture. It's just plain lost here. Any ideas?

It is actually a print of Hilton Head, South Carolina and surrounding area. The flash and lighting just don't do it justice.

I found this tricked-out, I mean framed-out, mirror for $7 to complete the art wall in my bedroom.  This is my first attempt at layering and doing an art wall and it reminds me of what Stacy London from "What Not to Wear" always says: "It doesn't match. It goooeeesss!"

And go it does. I must save my reputation here and tell you that there is no smudge like the flash is showing. Heck, this girl goes cheap, but some things are worth the price. I love Perfect Glass. If I have to wash or polish something, don't make me do it three times Windex! Since I found my lighthouse picture, I moved the art from the hallway over the computer desk so this wall is finally on its way. I picked this oil painting up this winter at the Starving Artist show in Charlotte:

I know, you are distracted by my cute family on the computer.  Well, they are cute, so I don't blame you for looking.

Finally, I have to give you some context as to why I love the white mugs I purchased today for $2. Here's the thing: they are an entire set of matching mugs. I never knew one could attain that. Aspire, yes. Attain, no. You know how when your kids are little and every ornament on the tree is made out of macaroni or yarn and well, you go through Home and Gardens and your tree, well, it just looks like something Charlie Brown threw together. Well, I could not wait to get rid of my rag-tag, mismatched collections of mugs. Just because I can! I don't have to save every 99 cent mug some kid or coworker gives me from the dollar store (sorry guys). I can have grown-up, matching mugs.  And yes, we love the little bugers, but I can COLOR COORDINATE my tree now if I want!

These just make me smile. Now I have just got to stop keeping the roads hot every weekend and actually get some painting done. I also think I have officially missed spring cleaning my windows as it is now almost July. My grandmother would roll over in her grave. And the oven and refrigerator are long overdue for a little TLC.  I don't think there is a soul who hates cleaning her oven more than me and I have a self-cleaning oven. I can dust and mop till I drop, but I hate crusty-nasty ovens and that yellow globby substance that always accumulates under the vegetable bins in the fridge. What is this stuff?

Toille Love

I love my new black and white toille curtains. They really sing against my spring green walls.

I am also liking the eclectic modern with the old-fashioned toille:

I really NEED those two white Lindsey chairs from Ikea! They would really look great in this room and the scale is perfect.

I am still looking for my white writing desk. I think I want to pair it with a great banana chair and an outdoor rug I have been coveting at Lowes.

Brrrr!

Wow is it ever cold to be May, but the sky is a beautiful blue and the air is crisp and in South Carolina, I will be dreaming of days like this very soon!  I wanted to share another corner of my bedroom redo with you:

Don't you just love the look of this white driftwood against the bright green.  Makes my eyes happy!  I moved the free-standing seashell from hiding and put it on the table.  I think it looks really pretty:

Yesterday I helped my daughter move some things from her storage unit and she gave me a really nice bookshelf she doesn't have room for now.  I have been playing with it in my kitchen and I'll share it with you later.  Tonight is my small group Bible study so I will be baking brownies instead of playing with my new bookshelf "toy." Have a great day ladies!

Score!

Geez I'm nervous! I am in awe of you seasoned bloggers who I secretly admire and drool over your posts. Mr. Goodwill Hunting inspired me to blog, particularly because he is from my hometown of Rock Hill, or for us locals--Rock Thrill!  This is my first attempt at blogging but I just had to share my big yard sale score this weekend as I continue my journey in creating my dream bedroom. I'll start with these awful bedside tables I got at a yard sale in March for $25 for the pair.  I spray painted them satan white and then decoupaged the tops with this beautiful black-and-white damask wrapping paper I picked up at Walmart.

I still have to find new hardware but I think the look of them came out nice, but I really struggled with the decoupage. It is not a smooth nice finish, so I have yet to poly them because I may scrape them off and try again. Using the Modge Podge was harder than I anticipated. The paper easily tore while I tried to smooth is out.

These pillows are part of my Big Score this weekend. They are pale green toile and the large graphic leaf print pillow caught my eye from across the room.  Suffice it to say, it's a good thing no one got in my way! To bring everyone up to speed on what I have done so far, after I finished the side tables, I spray painted two plain, black lamp bases that looked a little federal apple green and replaced the plain, big-box store shades with these graphic black-and-white shades from Target.  I think they were about $15 a piece. My headboard I made a few yeas ago out of plywood and covered it in dark brown "pleather."  The art over the lamps I picked up this weekend for $5 a piece at House of Bread's yard sale. (BTW, the bed isn't centered under the art because right now, my computer table is taking up too much room on the other side of the bed, but more of that later!)

I have been on a quest for a round table to go between two bedroom chairs and got this for free on the side of the road about a month ago but it was missing its glass top.

I have this REALLY ugly industrial-type table I have my computer on that has a glass top that I am going to replace as soon as I can when find a writing table or sofa table I can refurnish, so this little beauty will have to wait. I'll take the glass top from the other table and have it cut to fit.

On a rainy Saturday two weekends ago, I took out my staple gun and covered these mini bulletin boards I found at a Walmart sidewalk sale for $3 a piece with pre-cut fabric I bought from Hobby Lobby for $6 and, presto chango, cheapo art:

This is a huge wall so I will be looking to add more to it.  Big score item #2 was this beauty at the House of Bread yard sale for $10!! Notice it is round like the free one I picked up with no top. I am going to refinish it with some black latex paint:

Now for The Big Score. Take a look at this beauty I snagged from my favorite used furniture store on Cherry Road. Who could not love this lamp. Asking price $40, actual damage = $25.  I got this yummy damask cream lamp shade at House of Bread also for $5! I have to say I am as proud of her as I am of my children!

And so there is no sibling rivalry, I flanked her between my actual two children! I spent this Saturday visiting my favorite local places--The Shoppes at River's Edge and Wow! Home Furnishings (who BTW is going out of business).  Thanks for indulging me and I'll leave you with this parting photo of my gorgeous grand-dog Foster, a.k.a., Fozzie!
